During the 2nd Semester (January 2012), Fayette County High School will begin a new "rolling block" schedule to insure that our students and teachers are getting the maximum benefit from their Instructional Focus time.

We have created a schedule in which the Instructional Focus time will be embedded in each class the student has and will roll with each day of the week. To be more specific, 1st period will have an extra 30 minutes on Mondays, 2nd period will have an extra 30 minutes on Tuesdays, 3rd period on Wednesdays, 6th period on Thursdays and 5th period on Fridays. The length of time for 4th period will not change because that class is already longer than all the other classes.

We believe that by embedding the Instructional Focus time in this "rolling block" it will allow students to get the most out of their classes. Students who are doing well will get even more in-depth instruction during Instructional Focus while students who are having some difficulty in a certain class will have an additional 30 minutes a week with that particular teacher. The new schedule will allow students to get help in more than one class, something that the old schedule did not accommodate. For example, a student won't be limited to a Science Instructional Focus session when they may need help in Science, Math and English.

We know that it will take some time to adapt to this new schedule but we believe that the students will greatly benefit from the new rolling block Instructional Focus sessions.
